The City of Melville is the custodian of a local history reference collection as well as two museums.
- The Wireless Hill Museum has been a place for communications for thousands of years and is now home to exhibitions, educational talks, school holiday activities and a Museum Learning Program for school children.
- Heathcote Gallery & Museum is situated within the historic and heritage protected site of the old Point Heathcote Reception Home, later called Heathcote Hospital. It is now and innovative gallery hosting regular exhibitions from local artists, a museum and a shop.
Milestones towards today’s City of Melville:
1901 Melville Roads Boards was established
1904 first Melville Roads Board building constructed on Kintail Road, Applecross
1912 Telegraphy station opens at Wireless Hill
1913 Melville Roads Board Council chambers built on cnr of Stock Road and Canning Highway, Bicton
1962 We became the Town of Melville
1968 We became the City of Melville
